2018 Maverick Trial Hill Eden Valley Riesling (Biodynamic)

$70.00

Trial Hill is a stand-alone vineyard in Pewsey Vale. North-facing, at 450 - 480 m altitude, this vineyard contains many micro-terroirs. The 1.8 Ha Riesling vineyard is austere, with shallow (15 cm) grey-brown skeletal soils, strongly acidic, rich in mica, and stony and steeply sloping. It was contour planted about 40 years ago for ease of operations, and there is usually a spread of ripening from top to bottom.

    James Halliday Rating
  • Colour: Brilliant sunshine yellow.
  • Bouquet: Citrus peel, lime and spice, lychees, apple flavor. Complex.
  • Palate: Clear varietal expression and lively acidity. Mouthfilling, poised, elegant. Soft minerality. Fine silky finish.
  • Vineyard & Vintage Comments: Maverick’s two hectare Riesling vineyard is situated on a naturally occurring North-East facing amphitheatre high in the Eden Valley and is perfectly situated for the production of high quality Riesling. A good vintage. The grapes were picked in early March. Fine weather throughout allowed for clean even ripening without disease pressure. Moderate Yields.
